About our name

ESS Analysis is named after a famous game theory concept called “Evolutionary Stable Strategy”, also known as ‘ESS’. 

This theory describes a pattern of behavior which will persist in a population over extended periods of time.  These strategies persist despite changes to individuals, through many generations – because any alternative strategy  cannot compete with the evolutionary stable strategy, or ESS.

Similarly, we strive to extend the concept of ESS for our clients and help them identify the evolutionary stable strategy for their organization  - the strategy which serves them better than any other alternative.

The concept of ESS has been very successfully used to simulate war and predict the outcome of a chosen strategy of attack or defense before putting to the test. ESS has come to be widely used in behavioral ecology and economics, and has been used in anthropology, evolutionary psychology, philosophy, and political science.
